Nestled along the lively stretch of N Black Canyon Highway in New River, Tacos la Katrina emerges as a vibrant celebration of authentic Mexican flavors, serving up some of the most tantalizing tacos you’ll find in Arizona. Specializing in classic Mexican fare, this cozy restaurant has quickly earned a devoted following for its bold, fresh, and deeply satisfying dishes.
At Tacos la Katrina, the menu reads like a love letter to traditional Mexican street food. Whether you’re craving the succulent Shrimp Tacos bursting with ocean-fresh flavors or the perfectly seasoned Carne Asada Taco that delivers smoky, savory notes with every bite, the offerings never disappoint. The Katrina Burrito stands out as a hearty and flavorful choice, expertly wrapped and filled with layers of well-balanced spices and fresh ingredients. For those who love a fusion of flavors, the El Pastor Taco and Al Pastor Burrito bring a lively punch of marinated pork kissed by pineapple’s subtle sweetness.
The restaurant also excels with its fresh sides, such as the creamy and zesty Fresh Guacamole and Chips, a perfect way to start your meal, and the crisp, refreshing Kale Salad that offers a healthy contrast to the rich taco fillings. Breakfast lovers are well catered for too, with their popular Breakfast Burrito that layers eggs, cheese, and house-seasoned meats wrapped into a warm tortilla – a flavorful kickstart to any day.
Dining at Tacos la Katrina is an experience that feels both authentic and welcoming. The modest, unpretentious atmosphere recalls the essence of a beloved taco stand, where great food is front and center and prices remain accessible. As customer Baylee Houser put it, this “little taco truck” serves what you exactly want from a taco spot — simple, delicious, and gratifying.
Patrons rave about the quality of flavors and warm vibe. Manuela M. Cupler exclaimed, “BEST TACOS EVER,” highlighting the food’s remarkable freshness and balance. Jeff Lumbo was so impressed that he cheekily claimed to have signed up for a “lifetime membership” after one visit, praising especially the vibrant salsas that accompany every dish. While some, like Jen Caceres, found particular favorites in the Al Pastor tacos and refreshing Horchata water, the consistent thread across reviews is the genuine delight customers find in every bite.
Whether you’re a taco aficionado or simply in search of a true taste of Mexico amidst Arizona’s desert landscape, Tacos la Katrina delivers a consistently satisfying and heartfelt dining experience. It’s a place where every bite tells a story, and every craving finds its match.

BEST TACOS EVER. Amazing food and great spot to eat! Well worth the stop!
The reviews don’t lie! First time visit and signing up for a “lifetime membership”!!! The salsas were equally delicious as the tacos!! Gonna be my go to taco place!!
I recommend Al pastor tacos. Shrimp tacos were just okay. Asada tacos were a cool 7/10. Lengua tacos have potential when you add salt. Horchata water was too good!
Wow. Absolutely amazing place. A little taco truck in new River. Simple menu. Good prices. GREAT FOOD. Exactly what you would want from a taco stand. Muy buena, gracias!!
This place was great! Husband said it was almost as good as the tacos in his home town. Would highly recommend.
I was headed back to metro Phoenix after visiting a friend in New River and saw the food truck. I got a chicken taco and Coke in a bottle for lunch. The car thermostat said it was 113 out. I drank the coke while the taco was made and ate it while I charged the car. There was plenty of delicious chicken with onions and herbs in the taco. Highly recommend!
Not a local but they make you feel like you’re right at home, the food is comforting full of flavor & the service is excellent. We had the el pastor quesadillas & the Katrina burrito with guac & chip. It came out to around $40 but with the quality you get the quantity it’s all worth it.
Amazing tacos I went here for the first time a few days ago after having lived here in new river for several years. You definitely want to go visit this hidden gem. The hot sauce is on point.
